MAJOR PROJECTS
Palace of Nestor Archaeological Site - Pylos, Greece (2021)
Jamie served as the acting Head of Conservation for the Fall semester of the University of Cincinnati archaeological dig near Pylos, Greece under the direction of Dr. Sharon Stocker. The Palace is Mycenaean (16th - 11th c. BC), and according to Homer's Odyssey belonged to Nestor, one of the mythical kings of the Trojan War. Though there is no evidence that Nestor really existed, Homer's description of the palace match the archeaological remains, right down to the bathtub that Odysseus's son, Telemachus, supposedly used when he arrived at the palace.
The team was excavating nearby tholos thombs, and with four conservators, thousands of objects were photographed, cleaned, and catalogued during the season. The site is also home to the Griffin Warrior Tomb, a major find that continues to challenge and inform scholars about ancient Greek and Minoan culture. |
Colonial Williamsburg Objects Conservation - Williamsburg, VA (2019)
As part of the M.A. degree at West Dean College, a work-study project must be completed. Due to her love of history museums, Jamie chose Colonial Williamsburg. The renovation of the Hall of Arms in Tryon's Palace was underway and all of the weapons were removed and treated before re-installation. The lab was responsible for the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of dozens of firearms, particularly the flintlock musket known as the "Brown Bess."

(Farmers Branch Historical Park - Farmers Branch, TX (2008 - 2017)
Though Jamie has worked in the field of conservation since 2000, her experience in collections management led to working as the Curator of the Farmers Branch Historical Park, the oldest setllement in North Texas. There she was responsible for the preservation of 15 historical buildings including the period interiors and artifacts in the collection. She worked on many projects at the park including the design, build, and inventory for a 1920s general store, the return of the original bell in the Old Church which won a Preservation Dallas award, and wrote a pictorial history of the city.
Factum Arte Facsimile of Paolo Veronese's The Wedding Feast at Cana
- Madrid, Spain & Venice, Italy (2007)
Paolo Veronese painted The Wedding Feast at Cana for Palladio's refectory at San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice in 1563. Napoleon confiscated it when he sacked Venice in 1797, cutting it into strips and sending it back to France. To this day, The Wedding Feast at Cana is the largest painting on display in the Louvre. Eventually, Venice asked for the painting to be returned, France said no, and the Cini Foundation commissioned Factum Arte to make a facsimile of the painting to be displayed in the refectory as it was intended. Factum Arte developed a revolutionary process to scan the original and print a new painting complete with raised seams matching the cut lines from Napoleon's time. Though the facsimile could never be confused with the real painting (it's installed on aluminum panels), the project sparked debate over the appropriateness of facsimiles and the ethics that should govern how they are produced and presented to the public. Jamie joined the project in the summer of 2007 to inpaint seams on the canvas and assist with the installation in Venice.

Factum Arte for Anish Kapoor Mirror Heaxagon Dish and Marc Quinn Flower Prints
- Madrid, Spain (2007)
During the summer of 2007, Factum Arte was involved with many projects in addition to the Veronese facsimile. The staff was also tasked with building multiple iterations of Anish Kapoor's Mirror Hexagon Dish. Factum Arte is known for their collaboration with contemporary artists to assist with bringing the artistry to life. For this project, thousands of chrome hexagons were used to make the sculptures. In a painstaking process, the hexagons had to be inspected for clarity and then placed on a convex form to get the correct shape. A support was added to the back to stand it upright and make it possible to hang. The bespoke work took months to complete.
In addition to the Kapoor project, Jamie assisted with applying custom coatings to dozens of signed and numbered prints of Marc Quinn's Flower series. |
